Cooking Up Dreams is a unique fundraising event that features a culinary extravaganza with delicious samplings by leading local chefs and restaurants. The competition will be fierce as 300 guests and celebrity judges vote on the top dish that will win the People’s Choice or the Judge’s Awards.
Celebrity Chef Stephen Kalt has been at the top of the culinary world, on both coasts, for a very long time so when Chef Kalt asked RUMOR to bring their new, state of the art, photobooth to the Spartina grand opening we were honored to do so!
RUMOR founder and photographer, Barnaby Draper, met Chef Kalt many years ago at the original Spartina in Tribeca in New York City. Barnaby ended up shooting Chef Kalt’s awesome wedding with a 4×5 camera. Long before the photo booth craze, Barnaby did a “studio style” photo booth with black and white 4×5, Type 55, polaroid film which produced a B&W Polaroid and a beautiful negative as well. It was quite a process of storing the negatives in buckets of water and then washing the negatives after the event and hanging them up to dry overnight but the Polaroid negatives had funky borders and character which made for incredible prints. Technology, however, raced on leaving the beauty of large format Polaroids behind as the digital era was ushered in. Some of the fun of taking the photos was lost, for a while, as digital photography took over. But, before long, the benefits of digital photography were easy to see and, while most film photographers will undoubtedly always be somewhat nostalgic for the film days, digital photography allows us to create in ways we never could before and the photo booth experience has greatly benefited from the advances in digital photography. RUMOR Photo Media is now able to offer a premium photo booth experience where guests are photographed in an “open air” or “red carpet” manner rather than confined to a little booth. The photo booth itself is custom made from walnut or mahogany to compliment luxury events. The images are captured with a professional DSLR camera and soft beauty light and the images are ever so slightly “cleaned up” with our secret facial recognition/editing software. Guests can see their images right away on iPad Sharing Stations, choose their images, share them on social media or text and email the images to themselves or get 4×6 prints on the spot! The trade off for those cool Polaroid borders is beautiful images available at your event which excited guests can share right away.
It was very fitting for RUMOR to do it’s first LA event at Chef Kalt’s Spartina opening which was a huge hit! Congratulations Chef!
